The Arakkha Army (AA) launched an offensive targeting the No. 5 Military Operations Command (MOC-5) in Arakan State’s Taungup Town on Thursday, according to sources on the ground.

There are three military operations command headquarters in Arakan State. The AA has already seized MOC-9 based in Kyauktaw, and MOC-15 based in Buthidaung.

A source told DMG: “The AA launched the attack at around 6 a.m. on Thursday and the regime brought in air and artillery support. The AA has encircled the MOC.”

Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 346 and 544 provided artillery support for the MOC-5.

Approximately 50 junta soldiers and police from the central police station in Taungup Town withdrew on Tuesday to join the MOC-5.

The AA has captured portions of Taungup, while junta air raids have destroyed several buildings in the town.

“The regime bombed the central market and some wards on Wednesday, burning some houses,” one resident said. “We still don’t know how many houses have been destroyed as the fighting is raging. It is fair to say the AA has captured Taungup Town.”

The AA has also been evacuating trapped residents from the town.

MOC-5, Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 346 and 544, and signal and anti-mine units are all stationed in Taungup.
