The Arakkha Army (AA) reportedly seized a Myanmar military base near Alae Than Kyaw Village in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township on the night of June 12.
The AA began an attack on the junta base on June 9 and seized it three days later, a source said.
“The AA seized the military’s Alae Than Kyaw camp yesterday night. Regime jet fighters dropped several bombs on the AA positions during the fighting. Some junta soldiers managed to flee the camp and some were captured alive. The fleeing junta soldiers are being hunted down by AA fighters,” the source explained.
A junta jet fighter opened fire on some military outposts that were lost to the AA near Alae Thankyaw Village and on the Angumaw-Maungdaw road following the ethnic armed group’s seizure of the military camp.
Maung Ye Lin and Nay Win Than, two men in their 20s from Bawdigon Village, were injured in an artillery strike by Border Guard Force Battalion No. 5 in Maungdaw’s Myothugyi Ward at around 11 a.m. on June 13.
“The military’s Border Guard Force Battalion No. 5 in Maungdaw Town’s Myothugyi Ward fired mortar shells, wounding two young men yesterday morning,” said a local resident. “The two men sustained shrapnel wounds to their bodies, legs and arms and their conditions are considered life-threatening. We are planning to treat them.”
Clashes between the military and AA have been escalating near Magyichaung and Pantawpyin villages in Maungdaw Township since 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The AA has seized several junta bases, military camps and BGF outposts in Maungdaw. It has also stepped up attacks on Border Guard Police Battalion Nos. 2 and 5 and Nar Khaung To camp.
The AA has said it will step up attacks on the regime camps in Maungdaw, warning junta soldiers to surrender or face more attacks and their potential demise.
The AA has seized nine townships in Arakan State along with Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State, and scores of military camps. It has been attacking junta positions in Ann and Thandwe townships in recent weeks.
