The junta’s Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 371, 372 and 372, stationed on Mt. Tawhein in Kazukaing village-tract, fired mortar shells into the villages from 9 a.m. to noon, according to locals.

A local man in Alekyun Village, part of Arakan State’s Ann Township, was injured in a junta artillery strike at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, according to locals.
The 30-year-old, identified as Ko Maung Aye Nyunt, was injured when artillery shells fired by junta troops stationed on Mt. Tawhein landed and exploded in Alekyun Village.
“He sustained shrapnel wounds to his abdomen and arms. He received severe shrapnel wounds to his abdomen,” said a resident of Alekyun Village.
The junta’s Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 371, 372 and 372, stationed on Mt. Tawhein in Kazukaing village-tract, fired mortar shells into the villages from 9 a.m. to noon, according to locals.
More than 6,000 people from at least 10 villages in the area have fled to safer locations due to the junta’s daily artillery strikes.
“The villagers are afraid of the junta’s artillery strikes. Some people displaced by the junta shelling have yet to return home. People who remain in the village also live in fear,” said a local woman from Alekyun Village.
There has been no fighting between the military and the Arakan Army (AA) in Ann Township, but there are military activities on both sides.
Fighting in Arakan State remains oftentimes intense and civilian casualties have been on the rise due largely to the junta’s indiscriminate use of heavy weapons.
A local man was killed and three others were injured after junta artillery shells landed and exploded in Chilaepin Village, part of Arakan State’s Sittwe Township, on December 4.
