One civilian was reportedly killed when a Myanmar military jet fighter bombed the Naypu Taung marble stone production site in Arakan State's Taungup Township on Thursday morning.
Bombs dropped by the regime plane exploded at a workers' hostel, killing Daw Tin Tin Hla, a 45-year-old woman from Peinhnesan Village.
"A junta jet fighter dropped three bombs on the Naypu Taung marble stone production project site at around 3 a.m. on September 19. The female victim was killed on the spot," said a local with knowledge of the incident.
Tensions between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) are running high in Taungup, with civilian casualties on the rise due to junta airstrikes and artillery shellings.
On August 22, a woman was killed and four other people were injured in a junta airstrike on Taungup Township's Meekyaunghtoe Village.
"The regime is purposefully bombing residential areas. As for the people, if they see signs of an aeroplane bombing, they need to be extra cautious and not careless," said a resident of Taungup.
The Myanmar military's aerial bombardment of towns and villages in Taungup Township has resulted in increasing civilian casualties and displacement.
Facing a string of military defeats and significant territorial losses in Arakan State over recent months, the regime has ramped up attacks that show no indication of distinguishing between military and civilian targets, which critics have described as war crimes.
"The military regime relies on aerial bombardments to attack the anti-regime forces. The military regime may conduct more airstrikes with the help of China's drone technology," posited a military analyst in Arakan State.
It has been more than 10 months since fighting between the military and AA resumed in Arakan State on November 13, 2023, with the Arakanese ethnic armed group so far having seized effective control of 10 townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State over the intervening months.
