A female teacher from Bago Region’s namesake town was arrested on accusations of providing financial support to the anti-regime People’s Defence Force (PDF), with the woman’s house later sealed by authorities.
About 30 soldiers and police arrived at the house of Daw Mar Mar Aye, a high school teacher, at about 10 p.m. on Sunday and arrested her, a source close to her told DMG.
“The reason for the arrest was not known at the beginning, and the family found out about it three days after the arrest,” the source said.
Daw Mar Mar Aye was initially detained at Bago Myoma police station. She was subsequently transferred to Bago Prison after a lawsuit was opened against her under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, for allegedly providing financial aid to the PDF, sources close to the teacher said.
Soldiers and police sealed off her house three days after she was arrested, a witness said.
The residences of more than 20 political activists and anti-regime dissidents have been sealed off in Bago town since the February 2021 coup, according to sources on the ground.
