The Three Brotherhood Alliance said in a statement on November 30 that towns including five towns in northern Shan State and four major trading gates along the Myanmar-China border had been seized during the first 35 days of its “Operation 1027”.
The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) took control of five towns in northern Shan State — Chin Shwe Haw, Monekoe, Kunlong, Pansai, and Kongyan — and seized four border trading camps.
The Three Brotherhood Alliance also seized more than 200 junta bases and military camps and more than 400 junta soldiers surrendered to the anti-regime forces, the statement added.
“Since the Brotherhood Alliance declared offensive attacks against the regime, the group will have intentions to fight to the end. As this operation leads to battles to seize towns and cities, the regime can also strategically inflict serious harm on the people,” said U Pe Than, an Arakanese politician.
Civilian casualties have been a daily occurrence in conflict regions across Myanmar since Operation 1027 was declared, and homes and public hospitals have been among the damages due to the junta’s retaliatory and largely indiscriminate shelling, airstrikes and drone attacks on residential areas.
The MNDAA launched an attack on two junta bases near Border Post 126 in Kokang District on November 29 and seized the two military camps an hour later.
U Than Soe Naing, a political analyst, said the operations of the Three Brotherhood Alliance had been more successful than expected, adding that other revolutionary forces needed to unite.
“In order to achieve success on a national scale, if the revolutionary forces all over the country can join together and attack the regime, we will soon be able to achieve the goal expected by the people.”
