A Border Guard Force member was killed on Tuesday when a grenade exploded at a BGF outpost in Kyaukpandu Village, part of Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township, according to initial reports.
The grenade reportedly exploded during an altercation between BGF personnel.
“Two BGF members who were on guard were arguing with each other, and one of them threw a grenade in his hand at about 2 p.m. on April 11,” said a village elder who declined to be named for security reasons. “The two BGF policemen sustained injuries and one was seriously injured and died on the way to Maungdaw Hospital.”
Another BGF member is reportedly receiving medical treatment at the Kyaukpandu BGF police outpost.
“We heard an explosion at the BGF outpost yesterday. The two policemen drank alcohol and argued with each other and one of them threw a grenade. A border policeman died of serious injuries,” another local, who did not wish to be named for security reasons, told DMG.
DMG phoned Arakan State Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Kyaw Thura regarding the incident, but he could not be reached.
