The Arakan National Party (ANP) Central Executive Committee is holding a two-day closed-door meeting from March 10-11.
U Pe Than, a member of the ANP’s policy steering committee, told DMG that he could not say what was being discussed, adding that the results would be released after the meeting. Media were not granted access to cover the event.
The meeting is expected to discuss the ANP’s request to the State Administration Council to rescind the Arakan Army’s designation as a terrorist organisation, and to implement the proposals approved by the Arakan State Parliament. The gathering is also scheduled to address issues such as the release of those arrested and charged under the Counter-Terrorism Law, returns of internally displaced people (IDPs), and the accession of Daw Aye Nu Sein, a member of the ANP’s Policy Steering Committee, to the military regime’s State Administration Council (SAC).
U Pe Than told DMG that the ANP was monitoring Daw Aye Nu Sein’s conduct as a SAC member in accordance with the decision of a meeting attended by Central Committee members and elected MPs from February 12-14.
