The Matupi Chin Defense Force’s Brigade 1 has warned residents not to return to Matupi Town or nearby villages, saying military tensions could arise at any time with the rival ethnic Chin group Chin National Front/Chin National Army (CNF/CNA).

“We ask residents not to return to the town and villages near the town until we issue further notice regarding their return,” said Matupi CDF Brigade 1.

The Chin Brotherhood launched “Operation Chin Brotherhood” and seized Matupi Town from the military regime on June 29, after 20 days of fighting. The Arakkha Army (AA) and Yaw Army from Magwe Region joined the operation.

The alliance consists of the Zomi Federal Union, Chin National Organization, Mindat Chin National Council, Maraland and Kanpetlet CDF, and Matupi CDF Brigade 1.

The Chin Brotherhood clashed with CNF/CNA forces during the fighting in Matupi.

The Matupi CDF Brigade 1 said it would rebuild the damaged buildings in the town, and had taken measures to ensure the safety of residents. It said it would work together with fellow Chin organisations to rebuild Matupi.

The Chin Brotherhood said it would continue to fight alongside allies to seize the remaining townships in Chin State.
