Seven coronavirus patients have been put on oxygen concentrators and one more suspected COVID-19 patient has died in Arakan State, according to doctors.
“The patients being provided with oxygen concentrators are elderly people. All patients are in good condition,” Dr. Zaw Lin, the medical superintendent of Sittwe General Hospital, told DMG.
As of September 19, there were 227 coronavirus-positive patients at Sittwe General Hospital, including two healthcare workers, he said. A COVID-19 patient from Sittwe Township died on September 13.
Meanwhile, a potential COVID-19 patient died in Ann Township on September 18, said Dr. Aung Kyaw Moe, medical superintendent of Ann Hospital.
“He was being treated as a suspected patient. He has not been tested. He arrived at Ann Hospital yesterday with a sudden illness and died,” Dr. Aung Kyaw Moe told DMG.
There were three coronavirus-positive patients and two suspected patients in Ann Township, he added.
Elsewhere in Arakan State, the number of people infected with the virus has been on the rise in Mrauk-U Township, where internet access remains restricted.
“Locals are worried about the lack of immediate information because the internet connection was cut off in Mrauk-U Township. I would like to urge the concerned organisations to help locals get real-time information about the coronavirus pandemic,” said Ko Kyaw Soe, a resident of Mrauk-U.
According to a Ministry of Health and Sports press release, Myanmar reported 4,621 coronavirus-positive patients as of 4 p.m. on September 19, with 10,718 suspected patients and 81 deaths.
