Four civilians, including a child, were killed and eight others injured as the Myanmar military regime carried out airstrikes on Arakan Army-controlled areas in Ponnagyun, Kyaukphyu, Gwa and Mrauk-U townships from November 16-22, according to a DMG tally.
Among the fatalities were two minor children and two women. Three women, including a girl under 18, were among the injured.
The regime has increasingly targeted civilians in Arakan State, with a high number of casualties, particularly among children and women.
"The military regime is angry about its military defeat and is targeting local people. The regime is bombing schools and killing students and children. They are burning down barns like rats and mice and doing despicable things," said a local man in Arakan State.
A junta airstrike on Ward 1 in Kyeintali, Gwa Township, on November 21 killed 7-year-old Maung Chan Pho Thet and injured an elderly woman and two men.
On November 20, two bombs dropped near Baungdut Village in Mrauk-U Township killed two cows.
Airstrikes on Taungoo and Ale Ywathit villages in Kyaukphyu Township on November 17 killed three women, including a 16-year-old girl, and injured two 15-year-old girls and three men. The Arakan Army said two schools and a civilian home were also damaged.
The military has repeatedly targeted schools, monasteries and civilian homes, none of which are military installations, resulting in the deaths of young students.
"Students are losing safe and secure education because schools are being targeted. Studying at school or at home is equally difficult. Even when children go to school, they fear airstrikes," said a local man in Maungdaw.
The Arakan Army said the regime bombed Kuntaung Village in Ponnagyun Township, and Minyat, Leiktin, Thanchaung, Kyaukkalay, Ale Ywathit and Taungoo villages in Kyaukphyu Township on November 17 with airstrikes, drones and artillery, damaging schools and homes.
Customary international humanitarian law requires all armed organisations to protect civilians and prohibits attacks on civilians, abductions, the use of human shields and the targeting of civilian dwellings.
According to data compiled by DMG, at least 75 people, including children, were killed in Arakan State in November due to the regime's use of various weapons.
