FPNCC, UWSA donate K1 billion to storm victims in Arakan through AA

The Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC) and the United Wa State Army (UWSA) donated K1 billion for storm victims in Arakan State, the Cyclone Mocha Emergency Rescue and Rehabilitation for Arakan (Cyclone Mocha ERRA) said in a statement on June 10.

The FPNCC and UWSA contributed K500 million each to Deputy Chief of the Arakan Army Dr. Nyo Twan Awng in Pansang for storm victims in Arakan State, Cyclone Mocha ERRA said in the statement.

Chairman of the Cyclone Mocha ERRA Dr. Nyo Twan Awng and head of Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO) U Twan Min Naing accepted the cash assistance handed over by Head of UWSA International Relations U Kyauk Kaw Am, the statement added.

The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) said it has also received 1 billion kyats donated by the civilian National Unity Government (NUG) and fellow ethnic armed revolutionary organisations for storm victims.

So far, a total of K2 billion has been donated to storm victims in Arakan State through the Arakan Army.

The Arakan Army is providing food supplies and repairing houses for storm-hit Muslim villages in Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, Rathedaung and Buthidaung townships in Arakan State.

A total of 1,156,796 people were affected by the cyclone and accompanying torrential flooding in Arakan State, with financial losses totaling nearly K4.7 billion and 148 deaths recorded, the junta’s Arakan State Administration Council has said.

Hundreds of thousands of surviving storm victims in Arakan State are in need of food, medicine, shelters and clean drinking water, and will need substantial assistance for recovery.

Myanmar’s military regime recently imposed a travel ban on local and international nongovernmental organisations and civil society organisations providing humanitarian assistance to victims of Cyclone Mocha in Arakan State.

The latest barring of aid deliveries in Arakan State will be especially felt among the state’s sizable displaced population, humanitarian stakeholders have noted.
