The Arakkha Army (AA) shelled a junta base where the regime had prepared a defence in Ngapali Town’s Mazin Ward, Thandwe Township.
Since the AA defeated junta deployments around Gaw Village, the regime has prepared a defence in Mazin Ward, the site of Thandwe Airport in Ngapali. The base is under the charge of a tactical commander.
“The AA shelled Mazin yesterday. Two shells landed on an outpost, and junta soldiers were reportedly injured,” said a Thandwe resident.
The regime had closed Thandwe Airport since Monday as the fighting moved closer to the airport grounds. The regime is using the commercial airport for military purposes, according to sources.
“The regime has airlifted troops via the airport. Residents are concerned that they will be trapped in the fighting,” said another Thandwe resident.
The fighting, which started more than 20 miles from Thandwe Town, is now just two miles away.
The regime has fortified the town to defend against the AA’s advance. The junta’s Light Infantry Battalion No. 566, Infantry Battalion No 55 and a naval base are based in Thandwe Town.
