A missing Manaung Public Company employee was found dead on February 5 in a reservoir within the designated hotel zone on Manaung Island, family members said.
Maung Min Htet Wai, who worked as a chef in Manaung Township’s Kaei Beach hotel zone, had been missing since February 3, according to his uncle.
“He arrived at our home one day before he went missing,” said the uncle, U Kyaw Than. “He drank with his friend in the hotel zone on the night of February 2. His friends said they returned to their hostels at 10 p.m., but he was not in his room when people searched for him the next day.”
U Kyaw Than added: “His phone and slippers were in his room, but his salary was not in his wallet.”
Maung Min Htet Wai was not known to have any enemies, nor was he ever reported to have quarreled with any of his colleagues in the hotel zone.
The 21-year-old’s body was found with injuries, according to family members, who have opened a case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, covering murder, at the Manaung Township police station.
“We are still awaiting the autopsy results. The autopsy was already carried out and the body was sent to the home,” said a Manaung Township police officer, who told DMG that the deceased was found with two wounds on his neck.
Manaung Public Company is the developer of the Manaung Township hotel zone, which it hopes will help spur tourism on the island.
