The Arakan Army (AA) is accelerating implementation of health sector efforts to ensure that all people in Arakan State have full access to healthcare services.
The Public Health Department of the Arakkha People's Government announced on July 11 that it had launched the Health Supervisor Grade 2 course to accelerate related health activities.
The first enrollees of the course, which is being attended by about 100 participants, began classes on July 1. The course is taught by 17 instructors in six subjects: basic anatomy, physiology and pharmacology, environmental health, basic epidemiology, public health, basic healthcare, and basic obstetrics, according to a statement from the Public Health Department.
The training period will last for eight months, and upon completion of the training, trainees will be appointed as Health Supervisor Grade 2, depending on the staffing needs of the AA's Rural Health Department.
"Currently, there is a need for everything in Arakan State," said an Arakanese woman. "Among them, the health sector is a major need. It is a pleasure to provide health skills training to young people. AA will be able to provide health services to the people of Arakan State. What's more, this training has become a job opportunity for the youth who are lost."
The AA's Public Health Department will also reportedly conduct a Health Supervisor Grade 1 course.
In addition to these courses, other courses related to public health will be opened depending on the situation to provide both educational and employment opportunities to young people in Arakan State, according to the Public Health Department.
The AA's Public Health Department says it is gradually implementing the plan, with health workers from Arakan State as well as medical personnel arriving from mainland Myanmar, although human resource needs remain.
The Arakkha People's Government is inviting people of all ethnicities to serve as public health workers, as there is still a need for them.
"I also think that those who join the Public Health Department should be given a specific salary," said an Arakanese man in Kyauktaw Township. "That way, more people will come to work. In addition, to get more job opportunities, not only the Arakkha People's Government needs to recognise it, but also other external international organisations. If we do this, we will have a better workforce and more people will want to work."
The AA, which controls most of the territory in Arakan State, is currently implementing departmental activities to establish a revolutionary government and strengthen its existing administrative apparatus.
