A civilian was killed and another injured in Thayet Taung Village, part of Arakan State’s Myebon Township, in a junta bombing raid on Saturday at around noon.
A 50-year-old man from Minbya Village who was staying in Thayet Taung was killed, and a male resident of Thayet Taung was injured.
“A junta jet fighter came and dropped bombs. Around seven bombs fell on our village as well as outside the village. A 50-year-old man who worked at a prawn farm outside the village was killed,” said a resident of Thayet Taung.
Some houses were also damaged in the bombing raid, which forced locals to flee their homes.
Scores of civilians were injured when the junta conducted bombing raids on Nyaung Kan and Taung Pauk villages in Myebon Township on Friday. Many houses were damaged in ensuing fires.
Many residents in Myebon Township are in a state of panic due to unprovoked air attacks by the regime.
“If there were clashes near our village, we would have abandoned the village. But there is no fighting, and the regime keeps shelling this or that village to deliberately kill civilians,” said a resident of Thayet Taung Village.
In response to consecutive military defeats in Arakan State, the regime has been targeting residential areas with air and artillery strikes, causing civilian casualties daily.
According to a DMG tally, at least 30 civilians were killed and 40 others were injured by regime bombing raids in Mrauk-U, Minbya and Myebon townships between March 15 and March 23.
