The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) said junta soldiers stole cash and jewellery worth 2 billion kyats from KBZ Bank and CB Bank branches during fighting in the west of Mogok Town, Mandalay Region.
A TNLA statement said junta soldiers from three junta bases in the west of Mogok Town fled and hid in the Kyetpyin police station and banks in the town after the TNLA and allied troops attacked them on June 27.
TNLA and allied troops pursued junta soldiers, and found proof that the junta soldiers stole cash and jewellery from the KBZ Bank and CB Bank branches in Mogok.
The TNLA said it found 5 million kyats and jewellery from the backpacks of each junta soldier killed.
Junta troops belonging to the 99th Light Infantry Division, Infantry Battalion Nos. 88 and 78, Light Infantry Battalion No. 148, and the Mogok tactical command under the Central Command were responsible for the theft.
The TNLA and allied forces have seized four junta positions in western Mogok. The TNLA said on July 1 that it had captured 15 junta soldiers, and seized over 40 guns including assault rifles and heavy guns.
Fighting has been raging on the border of Mandalay Region and northern Shan State as the TNLA and allied forces launched fresh offensives on June 25 as part of the renewed Operation 1027.
