Three junta jet fighters dropped several bombs on Thaekan Village, part of Arakan State’s Minbya Township and held by the Arakan Army (AA), at about 11 p.m. on Friday, wounding two people including a Buddhist monk, according to local residents.
Ashin Pyinnyarbala, the 57-year-old monk, and U San Tun, a man in his 70s from Thaekan Village, sustained injuries in the junta air attacks.
“U San Tun received injuries to his legs and the monk sustained shrapnel wounds to his head. Cattle farms outside the village were reduced to ashes by the junta airstrikes,” said a local man.
The junta airstrikes also destroyed some religious buildings and about 20 homes in the village, forcing hundreds of locals to flee to safer locations.
“The junta carried out at least two aerial bombardments on the village without there being fighting between the Myanmar military and Arakan Army (AA) in the area. All villagers have fled to safer locations,” said a local woman.
The junta dropped bombs on Thaekan Village on February 29, March 1 and March 23, according to local residents.
Civilian casualties have been rising due to the junta’s artillery attacks and airstrikes on towns and villages controlled by the AA in Arakan State.
Hundreds of civilian casualties were reported in Sittwe, Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Myebon, Kyaukphyu and Ramree townships due to the junta’s indiscriminate shelling and airstrikes this month.
