Two residents of Khone Taing village in northern Maungdaw Township went missing on July 10 after they went out foraging for bamboo shoots, and were found the next day beaten and bound.

Two residents of Khone Taing village in northern Maungdaw Township went missing on July 10 after they went out foraging for bamboo shoots, and were found the next day beaten and bound.
Local villagers assembled a search party on Sunday and discovered the men tied up with rope after reportedly having been beaten by dozens of assailants from an unidentified village.
“They were being provided medical treatment at the military clinic in Kyane Chaung village. They got injured from being beaten and [suffered] abrasions,” said U Maung Hla, head of Khone Taing village.
The two men, U Nay Tun, 48, and U Sein Hnyar, 46, returned to their village after being provided medical treatment.
DMG was unable to confirm details of the incident, including who was responsible for the assault or why the men were beaten.
