The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) said it rescued 13 junta soldiers including some critically injured at the Northeastern Command base in Lashio, northern Shan State, which the ethnic armed group recently overran.
The group also released a video file that purported to show the rescue and treatment of injured junta soldiers.
Thirteen injured junta soldiers were found hiding beneath a bunker at the Northeastern Command on Thursday. They were suffering from hunger, cold and infection, and some were in critical condition, according to the MNDAA.
MNDAA soldiers rescued them from the bunker and provided first aid before sending them to a hospital for further treatment.
The MNDAA and allied groups seized the Northeastern Command on August 3, one month after launching an assault on the regional headquarters.
The MNDAA said armed forces must provide treatment to wounded and sick prisoners of war and civilians, and protect their dignity and rights. The MNDAA said it has a policy to protect prisoners of war on humanitarian grounds.
The regime, on the other hand, has carried out indiscriminate air attacks on residential areas, inflicting numerous civilian casualties.
