The Arakkha Army (AA) is focused on attacking the Maung Shwe Lay naval base in Arakan State’s Thandwe Township as the regime reinforces the naval base by sea.
The AA launched an assault on the Maung Shwe Lay naval base on Saturday with artillery and drones, killing some junta soldiers, according to sources.
One Thandwe resident said: “The regime has retaliated with air raids since the AA’s attacks on the naval base on July 20.”
The regime carried out an air raid on Kywe Yyay Thauk Village near the naval base, said residents.
The AA has seized the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion N. 566 and Infantry Battalion No. 55 in Thandwe Township. The Maung Shwe Lay naval base is the last junta battalion defending Thandwe Township.
The regime has made a stand in Jeiktaw and Zalun villages, and has been sending reinforcements by sea, according to another Thandwe resident.
“Junta troops and the AA are still fighting in Jeiktaw Village, and the regime has suffered casualties,” he said.
The regime has blown up at least three bridges on the road linking Thandwe with Thabyu Chaing to prevent AA troops from advancing on the Maung Shwe Lay naval base. It has also reportedly planted landmines along the road.
Local battalions as well as troops from around 20 battalions based in Magwe, Mandalay, Sagaing and Ayeyarwady regions are reportedly fighting the AA in Thandwe Township.
Around 60,000 people have been displaced by the fighting in Thandwe Township, and most urgently need food and medicines.
