Three elderly people were reportedly injured in a junta aerial bombardment of Thandwe, which is held by the Arakkha Army (AA) in Arakan State, on Thursday night.
Bombs dropped by two junta jet fighters fell and exploded in Thandwe’s Ward 1 and Ward 4 at around 11 p.m. on December 19, wounding the three.
“Two junta jet fighters dropped bombs on Ward 1 and Ward 4 in Thandwe on Thursday night simultaneously, injuring three senior citizens from Ward 1,” said a local resident.
The injured have been identified as Daw Ohn Myint, 85, Daw Tin Tin Cho, 55, and U Ye Aung, 63.
Two homes in Ward 1 and an office belonging to the Department of Agriculture Land Management and Statistics were also destroyed by the regime airstrikes.
A local woman was injured in a junta aerial assault on Ward 7 in Thandwe on December 17.
Civilian casualties continue to rise due to the regime’s continued airstrikes since the AA’s seizure of Thandwe Town on September 5.
“The military regime is defeated militarily in Arakan State and is attacking at will with airstrikes, which are its main means of attack. The people will continue to face the military regime’s airstrikes. Therefore, the people need to live with great caution,” said a human rights activist in Arakan State.
About 150 civilian casualties have been reported in Thandwe Township due to junta airstrikes since the latest fighting between military and AA forces began in November of last year, according to a DMG tally.
