A junta jet fighter reportedly launched an airstrike on Mrauk-U Township, held by the Arakkha Army (AA), at around 2 a.m. on Tuesday.
The junta jet fighter dropped bombs at a location near the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) office under the Health Ministry in Okphokan Village two times, but no casualties were reported, locals said.
“The regime launched an airstrike in Mrauk-U early this morning, but no casualties were reported. Local people from nearby areas are worried about their safety due to the junta airstrike,” said a resident of Mrauk-U.
A 13-year-old boy was injured in a junta airstrike on a location between Pauktawpyin and Waithali villages in Mrauk-U Township on June 4.
An office of the district General Administration Department (GAD) in Mrauk-U was damaged in a regime air assault on May 24.
“The regime’s airstrikes on civilian areas are threatening the people,” said a local resident from Mrauk-U’s Htanmarit Ward. “We would like to ask the regime not to carry out targeted attacks on people who are not related to the military, since they are angry about the military defeat of the AA.”
The AA seized control of Mrauk-U on February 9 and locals live in fear due to the regime’s airstrikes since then.
Civilian casualties continue to rise in Arakan State due to the regime’s airstrikes on hospitals, government offices and residential areas.
