At least five civilians were killed and six others injured as Myanmar’s military regime intensified airstrikes on Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships along the Bangladesh border in Arakan State, according to data collected by DMG.

Since the beginning of July, the regime has carried out daily aerial attacks using fleets of aircraft on villages, prisoner-of-war detention camps, and former military installations across the two townships, which are under Arakan Army control.

DMG data shows that a total of 11 people have been killed and injured combined in the latest wave of attacks, including civilians and prisoners of war.

Among the five killed are 64-year-old Daw Yaw Thar May from Taragu Village in Buthidaung Township, as well as one junta captain and three soldiers who were reportedly killed in an airstrike on a prisoner-of-war detention camp in Kyeinchaung Village, Maungdaw Township.

On July 3, an airstrike on Warnetyone Village in Buthidaung Township killed one civilian and severely injured at least five others, including two three-year-old children.

On July 2, another airstrike on a prisoner-of-war detention camp in Kyeinchaung Village killed four detainees, including a junta captain and three soldiers, according to reports.

On July 1 night, more than 10 bombs were dropped near the Maungdaw town entrance gate, the 3rd-Mile junction, and the vicinity of the former Border Guard Force Battalion No. 5 (BGF-5) base.

Residents said repeated airstrikes have caused severe psychological distress among local communities.

"Lately, jets and Y-12 aircraft are flying over Buthidaung almost every day. People are constantly worried for their lives. We do not know when the next strike will come. Our lives feel insecure," a Buthidaung resident told DMG.

Further attacks on July 1 also hit Thapyuchaung, Ywataw and Wachila Villages, and areas near the former Military Operations Command No. 15 (MOC-15), severely injuring a 13-year-old Muslim boy from Wachila Village.

In a separate incident the same day, an airstrike on Kyetmauktaung Village injured a 50-year-old man and two children, while destroying more than 10 houses.

Local residents said the escalating air campaign has created growing fear and instability across both townships.

“Previously, such continuous airstrikes were rare. But in the past few days, bombings have become daily occurrences, increasing anxiety among residents,” a Maungdaw resident said.

The regime has been widely accused of targeting civilian areas, villages, and detention sites as it loses ground on multiple fronts across the country.

Arakan Army forces reportedly captured Buthidaung Township on May 18, 2024, and Maungdaw Town on December 8, 2024, consolidating control over the Myanmar–Bangladesh border region.

According to the Arakan Army’s Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office (HDCO), at least 83 people were killed, 187 injured, and 65 arrested in Arakan State due to regime air and artillery attacks between January and June 2026.
