Another nursing and midwifery training school will be established in Kyaukphyu Township to fill vacancies at clinics and hospitals in Arakan State, according to the state health department.
The training school will provide a three-year diploma course in nursing and a two-year diploma course in midwifery.
“With the new school, we can train more students interested in the medical field, and we will be able to provide manpower at hospitals, clinics and public health departments,” said Dr. Zaw Zaw Aung, deputy head of Arakan State Health Department.
“We are planning to open the training school as soon as possible,” he added. “The building has been constructed. And the school already has a principal. Locals from southern Arakan State will be given priority in the selection process. The first batch is limited to those who passed the matriculation examination in 2020 and 2021, and those who will pass the upcoming matriculation in March will not be considered.”
Currently, Arakan State has only one nursing and midwifery training school, located in the state capital Sittwe.
Residents of southern Arakan State hope the new training school in Kyaukphyu will mean students from surrounding townships such as Taungup, Manaung, and Ramree can attend the school with relative ease.
“Previously, students had to attend the nursing school in Sittwe. It is not easy for people from southern Arakan State. Meal and accommodation costs are high. So, we are happy that a similar school will be opened in Kyaukphyu,” said Manaung resident Ma Chit Su.
Those wishing to attend the Kyaukphyu nursing training school can take out an application form at hospitals and township public health departments, with the deadline for submissions being February 28.
