School teacher being charged under Counter-Terrorism Law

Tatmadaw soldiers on August 5 arrested a primary school teacher, Nay Zaw Linn, 27, who worked in Pyin Chaung Village of Buthedaung Township, for questioning.
The Tatmadaw later said they found messages on Nay Zaw Linn’s mobile phone showing that he communicated with the Arakan Army members (AA) via a messenger application.
Nay Zaw Linn was handed over to the Phon Nyo Lake police station in Buthidaung Township and charged under sections 50(a) and 52(b) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, his family confirmed.
Since Nay Zaw Linn’s arrest, his family members and officials from the Education Department haven’t had the chance to see him.
“Even though we went to the Tatmadaw troop [NaKhaKha 3], we weren’t allowed to see him. The education officers also weren’t able to see him. When they brought him to the court on August 7, we couldn’t see him,” said U Kyaw Than, father of Nay Zaw Linn, adding that Buthidaung court will question his son until August 20.
Nay Zaw Linn was originally from Ma Nyin Taung village in Buthidaung Township.
