Three civilians were injured when their village in Thandwe Township was hit by a junta artillery strike at around 1 p.m. on Monday.

Two women, ages 76 and 45, and a man in Auk Nat Maw Village were injured. A junta outpost on Bar Daung Mountain near Thandwe Town was responsible for the shelling, according to residents.

The 76-year-old woman suffered injuries to her legs and back, and was sent to Thandwe Hospital. Her house was also incinerated by the shell that caused a fire, said a resident.

“Two others sustained minor injuries,” said another resident.

There was no fighting between the regime and the Arakkha Army (AA) in Thandwe Township on Monday. The regime, however, is accused of deliberately shelling Shwe Hlay, Nat Taung Maung, Talai Te and Zeegon villages, where clashes occurred previously.

One Thandwe woman expressed concern for her safety. “It is concerning for the safety of residents if the regime keeps shelling indiscriminately and deliberately,” she said.

A 30-year-old man from Thabyu Chaing Village in Thandwe Township was also injured by a junta artillery strike on May 9. The regime also carried out an aerial bombing raid near Thabyu Chaing and Linnthe villages on May 7.

Fighting broke out in Thandwe Township on April 13, and the warzone continues to expand.
