Industrial, agricultural and livestock production courses will be offered next year in Arakan State’s Kyaukphyu, Taungup and Mrauk-U towns for people who have completed Grade 9, according to the Arakan State Education Office.
The courses will be conducted at basic education high schools in those towns. Currently, similar courses are also provided at schools in Sittwe, Thandwe and Ann towns, according to the head of Arakan State Education Office, U Ba Htwe Sein.
“150 students will be admitted to each school. There will be three classes on industrial subjects, and each class will accept 30 students, and a total of 90 students will be admitted,” said U Ba Htwe Sein.
Those who have completed the courses will receive certificates, and those who achieve high scores in industrial studies will be allowed to join technical colleges and technical institutes that confer bachelor’s degrees in technology (B.Tech) or technological universities that offer bachelor’s degrees in engineering.
Similarly, those who achieve high scores in agricultural studies can join agricultural institutes or Yezin Agricultural University. Those who achieve high scores in livestock studies can join diploma courses in livestock and fisheries or the Yezin University of Veterinary Science.
“If possible, we want to see such schools in every township. It is good for us as it gives both parents and children more options,” said Daw Kyaw Laung, the mother of a Grade 9 student in Kyaukphyu town.
Last year, the program was launched at 51 schools across Myanmar, with 34 more schools to be included in different parts of the country, including Arakan State, next year.
