The Palaung State Liberation Front/Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA) has accused the military of firing artillery shells on its camp despite a temporary ceasefire with the Three Brotherhood Alliance in northern Shan State, the ethnic armed group said in a statement.
The junta’s Light Infantry Battalion No. 148 and LIB No. 71 in Phyuyaung Village, part of Mandalay Region’s Mogok Township, fired four mortar shells and small arms into a TNLA outpost in Nyaunggon Village on May 4, the statement said.
An elderly woman in her 60s was injured and two homes were damaged after junta troops fired six mortar shells into Thonesel Village, Nawnghkio Township, on April 27 and 28, the statement added.
Mediated by China, the temporary ceasefire agreement between the junta and the Three Brotherhood Alliance came into effect on January 12, the military attacked civilian communities in the northern Shan State with airstrikes and artillery strikes the following day.
The TNLA seized the towns of Namhkam, Namsang, Mantong, Namtu, Minengaw, Monglone and Kutkai in northern Shan State during ‘Operation 1027’, launched by the Northern Alliance in late October 2023, and is carrying out reconstruction efforts in sectors including healthcare, education and road transport.
