Ko Aung Hlaing Win, chairman of the Moe Pyinnyar Dana Philanthropic Association in Taungup Township, was transferred to the Taungup Township Police Station by the Tatmadaw (Myanmar military) on July 14, according to family members of the detainee.
Seven people including Ko Aung Hlaing Win were arrested at the Phon Nyo security checkpoint on the Taungup-Thandwe road on June 5.
They were detained for more than a month before being handed over to the Taungup Township Police Station by the Tatmadaw on Wednesday, said Ma Twe Tar Soe, the wife of Ko Aung Hlaing Win, who was able to speak to her husband by phone.
“I got a call from Ko Aung Hlaing Win that they had been transferred to Taungup Township Police Station. But I have not met him in person yet. I had to talk to him on the phone because the police station had been locked down,” she said.
Ko Aung Hlaing Win is in poor health and has been charged with driving without a licence, she said, adding that she had no information about the six others arrested along with her husband.
DMG contacted the Taungup Township Police Station and the chairman of the township administration council for comment on the arrest of the seven people, but they could not be reached.
