The military regime committed 46 massacres in the four months from January through April, reported Nyan Lin Thit Analytica, an independent research group monitoring Myanmar’s political situation.

According to its report, there were at least 46 massacres with at least five persons killed in each. A total of 369 people were killed.

Of the 46 massacres, 23 of them were bombing raids that killed 168 people. Northern Shan State suffered the most, with six air raids, followed by Arakan State with four. Fatal bombing raids also took place in Sagaing and Bago regions, as well as Kachin, Kayin, Kayah (Karenni) and Chin states, according to the report.

The deadliest bombing raid took place in Arakan State. A total of 22 people including nine children were killed when the junta bombed Thardar Village in Minbya Township on March 18.

There were 11 recorded incidents of raids in which junta soldiers slaughtered civilians. Five cases were reported in Sagaing Region, and the rest took place in Karenni and southern Shan State as well as Magwe, Bago and Mandalay regions. A total of 91 people were killed.

The most fatal raid took place in Sagaing Region’s Wuntho Township when junta soldiers killed 19 civilians during their raid on January 7.

Six massacres were inflicted via junta artillery strikes, killing 52 people and damaging numerous homes and other buildings.

Two were reported each in Arakan and Kachin states. One was reported each in Kayin and southern Shan State. Twenty-two people were killed when a shell fired by the regime hit the market at BXT Port in Arakan State’s Sittwe on February 29.

One human rights activist said: “The regime has been killing civilians every day since the coup. It is targeting civilians in resistance hotspots as it can’t accept military defeats. The regime will continue to commit war crimes until it is toppled. So, it must be toppled.”

The military junta committed at least 260 massacres from February 2021 to February 2024, killing 2,490 people, according to Nyan Lin Thit Analytica.
