Myanmar’s military regime has been attempting to send reinforcements to Arakan State, where fighting between the military and Arakan Army (AA) has been ongoing for nearly two months, the Three Brotherhood Alliance said in a statement on January 6.

The regime has been transporting troops and weapons to Ramree, Kyaukphyu, Manaung, Gwa and Thandwe townships in recent days, the Three Brotherhood Alliance’s statement said.

Regime forces clashed with the AA in Pauktaw Township on January 6 as it attempted to send reinforcements to the area in boats.

Junta troops have blocked off land and water routes to the civilian population in some towns in Arakan State where only a handful of the regime’s powers remain, and are oppressing the civilian populations at gunpoint from their remaining outposts, the Brother Alliance statement reads.

Renewed fighting between the military and AA has been escalating in Arakan State and neighbouring Paletwa Township, Chin State, since November 13.

Fierce clashes between the military and AA are reported in Arakan and Chin States on a daily basis as the ethnic armed group attempts to seize junta outposts and other strategic positions.
