Myanmar’s military regime on Saturday carried out aerial bombings on Ponnagyun and Pauktaw townships, which are controlled by the Arakkha Army (AA), killing two civilians including a child and wounding 13 others.

A 26-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy were killed in the junta’s bombing raid targeting a market in Yoe Tayoke Village, Ponnagyun Township, at around 10 a.m. Eleven others including four children were injured.

A junta Y-12 jet dropped six bombs on Chaungwa and Anauk Su wards in Yoe Tayoke Village, said residents.

“The regime deliberately targeted the market. A child and a woman were killed. At least 11 others were injured and they needed medical treatment,” said a Yoe Tayoke villager.

Ka Khaing Moe Aye, 26, and Maung Kyaw Lwin, 10, were immediately killed. An 8-year-old body and three girls, 5, 6 and 14, were injured. Other victims were two men, 18 and 52. The rest were women in their 40s and 50s.

Villagers are reportedly in a state of panic following the junta’s air attack.

“There is no [AA] base near our village. Villagers lead a simple life here. The regime deliberately attacked us and we are in a state of panic now,” said a villager.

Two houses were also damaged by the bombing raid on Yoe Tayoke.

The regime also bombed five villages — Thae Khone, Sin Tet Maw, Taung Oo Maw, Kyein Kwe Maw and Taung Puu — in Pauktaw Township on Saturday morning, wounding two male villagers, ages 29 and 56, in Kyiein Kwe Maw.

One Thae Khone villager said: “We were holding a funeral for a child who had drowned. A junta jet came and attacked the funeral party. The jet dropped four bombs. People heard the planes and managed to disperse and take shelter before the attack. The bombs dropped near the cemetery.”

The regime has often targeted with air attacks public places such as markets, schools, healthcare facilities and religious buildings in areas controlled by the AA, inflicting casualties.

A total of 268 civilians died and 640 others were injured at the hands of the regime over the six months from November 13 to May 13, according to the Humanitarian and Development Coordination Office of the United League of Arakan/AA (ULA/AA).
