At least 3,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) from Ann Township are in need of food, shelter and medicines, and they are facing many difficulties due to the lack of assistance.

The Burmese Women’s Union (BWU) reported that four women lost their lives as a result of sexual assault by the military regime and five women were injured as a result of conflict-related sexual violence.

The female prisoners transferred to Pathein from Sittwe were jailed on political charges and some are still facing trials.

"The regime sent 1,000 junta soldiers in military trucks from Ayeyarwady Region on October 28 and 29. The regime is preparing a defence in Gwa," said a military source.

"Due to the violence, harassment and intimidation systematically committed by the terrorist military, journalism has become a career full of danger," said the NUG.

A junta jet fighter bombed and strafed targets surrounding its Border Guard Police Battalion No. 5 in Arakan State's Maungdaw Town on Saturday morning.

In what was described as one of the worst massacres so far this year, the regime killed dozens of civilians in Sagaing Region’s Budalin Village last month.

Arakanese residents have welcomed the production of Arakanese-language movies, saying they help preserve Arakanese language and culture.

"Food insecurity has never been this severe in Myanmar's recent history with more and more people facing multiple shocks," said Paolo Mattei, the WFP representative in Myanmar.

Ann, Taungup, Maungdaw and Kyauktaw townships had the highest number of civilian deaths and the highest number of mass casualties due to aerial bombardments.

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) said in a report on October 31 that religious freedom in Myanmar has deteriorated as the conflict between the military regime and opposition forces continues unabated.
