Two local residents in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, were seriously injured in a drone attack launched by the military at around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The injured have been identified as Daw Ma Win Chay, 39, from Khamaungdaw Village and U Sein Thar Kyaw, 62, from Yeyoepyin Village.
Daw Ma Win Chay received severe injuries to her left eye and abdomen due to the junta’s drone strike and she has reportedly been admitted to Sittwe General Hospital.
“The military launched a drone attack on the village without fighting. A woman sustained severe injuries to her left eye and abdomen,” said a local woman from Khamaungdaw Village.
Residents of Khamaungdaw Village hid in bomb shelters as the military carried out a drone attack at about 5 p.m. on November 26.
A junta drone dropped four bombs on Yeyoepyin Village, which is about one mile from Khamaungdaw Village, at around 2 p.m. on Sunday, wounding U Sein Thar Kyaw.
“An elderly man was slightly injured in a junta drone attack. He sustained minor injuries to his left arm. The military deliberately attacked the village without fighting,” said a resident of Yeyoepyin Village.
Junta spokesman Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun could not be reached for comment on the matter.
Both Khamaungdaw and Yeyoepyin villages are located near Shwe Min Gan Jetty in Sittwe Township, where the Myanmar Navy is based.
Civilian casualties have been a daily occurrence and civilian homes and public hospitals have been among the damages due to the junta’s indiscriminate shelling, airstrikes and drone attacks since renewed hostilities between the military and Arakan Army in Arakan State began on November 13.
Eighteen people were killed and 60 others were injured in Arakan State and neighbouring Chin State’s Paletwa Township during the first 14 days of the latest hostilities, according to a DMG tally
[Editor’s Note: The death toll does not include residents of Pauktaw, where the fighting was intensifying as of press time.]
