The Arakan Army (AA) has seized two state-owned passenger vessels running a water route between Kyauktaw, Arakan State, and Paletwa, Chin State, junta spokesman Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said on Tuesday.
“The AA violently grabbed two ferryboats operated by the regime, namely Yay Nayar 1 and Yay Bawel 4 in Kyauktaw,” he said.
AA fighters seized the two ferryboats docked at a jetty in Kyauktaw and took the two boats along the Kaladan River.
A Myanmar Navy vessel and junta helicopter fired multiple rounds indiscriminately near Minzichaung and Yinchaung Villages along the Kaladan River in Ponnagyun Township, at about 12 noon on November 21 following the AA’s seizure of two ferryboats, locals reported.
“A Myanmar Navy warship and a junta helicopter fired multiple gunshots indiscriminately without fighting near some villages along the Kaladan River,” said a local man.
Some residents from Minzichaung, Yinchaung and Latmaseik villages have since fled to safer locations in fear.
Following the renewed Myanmar military-AA hostilities that began on November 13, rising civilian casualties in Arakan State have been reported largely as incidents involving indiscriminate junta shellings and gunfire.
