The Arakan Army (AA) and its allied resistance forces have captured the strategic Nat Yay Kan Hill Base, a key air defense outpost of the Myanmar military located along the Ann-Padan highway on the Arakan mountain range in Ngape Township, Magway Region, according to local and military sources.

The heavily fortified base had been under siege for nearly nine months since February 2025. After continuous offensives and encirclement, the AA and its allies fully seized control on October 14.

"We are still clearing out junta troops who tried to flee. Some surrendered while others escaped. The base was completely taken yesterday afternoon. More details will be released by the AA soon," said a source close to the Arakan Army.

Following the fall of the base, the junta is conducting airstrikes around the hill and nearby areas.

AA and allied forces had earlier captured Fighter Hill, located near Nat Yay Kan, on October 9. Following that victory, they launched a final assault on the main strategic hill, successfully overrunning it within five days.

"After the capture of the Kabalone hill base a few days ago, the junta continued to drop weapons and rations by air to Nat Yay Kan. The AA took the base during that period. Even now, junta aircraft are conducting air attacks nearby," said another source familiar with the situation.

At present, junta reinforcements from Padan are reportedly attempting to reach the area, but AA and allied forces are ambushing them along the route, according to sources.

The Nat Yay Kan Hill Base is not only crucial for air defense but also strategically significant in controlling both Magway Region and Ann Township in Arakan State.

"This base oversees both Magway and Ann. It's a key gateway into Arakan. From there, the junta aimed to push toward Ann and the naval command base. It also helps protect nearby state-owned defense factories in Magway. So, the AA's capture of this base directly threatens junta control in Padan and Minbu, as well as the security of those factories," observed a military and political analyst.

The Arakan Army, after securing control of 14 townships across Arakan State, has continued expanding its offensives into Magway, Bago, and Ayeyarwady Regions.

Analysts note that the AA's recent territorial gains, including at Nat Yay Kan, extend its operational depth beyond Arakan and expose major junta logistics and defense corridors.

"AA's advances in central Myanmar have made even Magway and Bago's military-industrial facilities vulnerable," a security observer added.
