Arakan Army (AA) chief Major-General Twan Mrat Naing will reportedly attend the Chin National Spring Revolution Day ceremony to be held on April 13.
The second anniversary of the Chin National Spring Revolution Day will be observed online at 8 p.m. on April 13 under the leadership of the Chin National Organization/Chin National Defense Force (CNO/CNDF).
At the event, AA chief Major-General Twan Mrat Naing, Acting President of the National Unity Government Duwa Lashi La and Chin Defense Force officials will discuss the current situation as it relates to the Spring Revolution.
Chin State is a region where the anti-junta movement is strong, and the AA has reportedly provided military training, weapons and ammunition to resistance groups in the state.
“The fact that the AA chief will attend the event shows that both the NUG and the AA and the Chin revolutionary forces are united in the Spring Revolution,” said an Arakanese youth who monitors developments in the so-called Spring Revolution against Myanmar’s military regime. “Some Chin people have had different opinions about the AA presence in the Paletwa area. In any case, the AA chief will be present on the day of the Chin Revolution Day, so I see that it shows that the Chin and Arakanese people are one group in the Spring Revolution.”
The Arakan Army has won widespread public support as it has gained territorial and administrative control over a sizable part of Arakan State in recent years.
“The AA has a good fighting spirit and has gained a lot of control in Arakan State, so it is recognised by all. The AA is the only powerful revolutionary organisation in Arakan State,” said U Pe Than, a political analyst and former politician. “The AA is a good model for revolutionary forces because of its military and political vision. The revolutionary forces have a good alliance with the AA, so everyone is hopeful and optimistic.”
The parallel NUG, allied non-state armed organisations and other democratic forces across the country, including the Chin National Front, sent congratulatory messages to the AA for its 14th birthday on April 10.
