A junta drone attack on a bazaar in Sanae Town, part of Arakan State’s Kyaukphyu Township, killed a local woman and wounded three others on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Daw Myo Thandar Win, 28, from Shwehintha Ward and the injured are U Tun Tun, 34, from Taungoosu Ward, Daw Kalaungmay, 42, from Kanpyinsu Ward and U Than Maung Chay, 34, from Awataung Village.
“The deceased runs a tea shop near the bazaar. Three others were injured while they were buying something when the junta drone attacked the bazaar,” said a resident.
The injured are receiving medical treatment at the local hospital, with two of them sustaining severe injuries in the attack.
The junta attacked positions near Sanae market with drones at least eight times from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on May 8, locals said.
At least seven stalls in the market were burned down by the junta drone assault, a local resident said.
“People fled to safer locations in fear when the junta drones attacked Sanae market. Food and consumer goods are among the items that were reduced to ashes by the junta drone attack. I don’t know the estimated loss of property due to the fire,” the resident explained.
Fear pervades daily life due to the repeated junta shellings, airstrikes and drone attacks on Sanae Town and nearby villages since early April, locals said.
A local was killed and two others were injured after the regime carried out airstrikes on Thitkatoe and Layponekyauk villages near Sanae Town on April 25.
The military regime, which has faced defeat after military defeat in Arakan State, is increasingly targeting towns and villages, causing civilian casualties to rise steadily in recent months.
