A local shot dead by security troop in Kyauktaw

A 40-year old man was shot dead by security troops in Kyauktaw’s Kardi village on the morning of 2 October, according to local sources.

Lu Chay, alias U Saw Naing from Apauk Wa village was shot by a military force positioned in Kardi village for security while he was heading to his job in Kyauktaw town, said a Kardi villager, who asked not to be named.

When the DMG phoned Colonel Win Zaw Oo, head of the Western Command, about the incident, he responded that it happened during curfew hours, at about 4:30 a.m. and he was shot because he did not respond to the Tatmadaw’s request to question him.

“The military troop near the bridge told him to stop for required questioning. But he did not stop and tried to run away. That forced the security troops to shoot him. We also found detonators from him,” Colonel Win Zaw Oo said.

He reportedly worked for Lay Wa Di bus station in Kyauktaw, and always went to town after 5 a.m.

“He always went to Kyauktaw after 5 a.m. I thought the military troop shot him because he acted suspicions,” said U Aung Kyaw Zaw, a middle school teacher from Apauk Wa village.

The curfew order was imposed in Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Rathedaung, Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships in Arakan State.

On 1 August, a 26-year old man from Amyint Gyun village was shot dead after a Tatmadaw troop tried to stop two villagers driving a motorbike on Min Chaung Bridge in Sittwe for questioning. The other villager, Ko Zaw Myint Lwin, has been released on bail of MMK 3 million.
