The Arakkha Army (AA) has captured a junta battalion and an ordnance depot in Arakan State’s Ann Township, where the Myanmar military’s Western Command is based, according to military sources.
The AA seized control of Light Infantry Battalion No. 371 and the ordnance depot simultaneously on Wednesday evening.
“The AA attacked two junta battalions and seized dead bodies of junta soldiers and weapons,” said a military source.
Fighting between the military and AA is fierce in Ann as the ethnic armed group continues to attempt to seize the Western Command headquarters.
The regime is responding with ground forces plus aerial and artillery support to protect the Western Command from being seized by the ethnic armed group.
“In Ann, clashes are everywhere. The battle for control of Ann can be said to be the most intense [that it has ever been],” said a source on the ground.
Thousands of local people are trapped by the fighting in Ann.
The AA has so far seized a battlefield engineering battalion, Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 373 and 371, a military security affairs battalion, a medical corps, an artillery battalion and other junta bases in Ann.
