Junta attacks have killed an average of more than two civilians per day in Myanmar so far this month, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
Junta attacks killed 49 civilians - 20 women and 29 men - from November 1 to 21. Arakan State had the highest number of casualties with 14, followed by Sagaing with 11. Of these, 34 deaths were due to airstrikes.
The chairman of the Ponnagyun Youth Association, Ko Pyae Phyo Naing, said: "The regime is venting its anger on civilians as it can't fight the armed groups. Targeting civilians instead of fighting the war like a war is reminiscent of the historical genocide against the Arakanese people by [Burmese King] Bodaw Maung Wine."
On November 13, seven locals were killed in an unprovoked junta airstrike on Jaikauk Village in Arakan State. Junta's air raids left three civilians dead in Sagaing Region's Pale Township the following day.
One Arakan State resident said: "The regime and the Arakkha Army (AA) should only fight each other. We are sad that the regime targets innocent civilians, displacement camps, and schools."
Four civilians were killed when the regime bombed Thinchikaing Village in Taungup Township on Tuesday.
According to the AAPP, 5,974 civilians have died at the hands of the regime since the military coup in February 2021.
