Myanmar’s military regime is carrying out heavy ground and air offensives in the Magway, Bago and Ayeyarwady Regions bordering Arakan State, according to military sources and local residents.
The regime is reportedly launching a large-scale offensive against Gotegyi Village in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region, near the Nat Yay Kan tactical base. Ground attacks are also underway against Nyaungkyo Village and the Point 666 hilltop camp in Bago Region, while simultaneous ground and air strikes are being carried out in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region.
The military launched a major offensive against Gotegyi Village, a forward outpost of the Nat Yay Kan tactical base in Magway Region. However, the Arakan Army and allied forces have since regained control of the village, according to a source on the ground.
A military source said, “The military regime has reinforced Myaylat Village and is conducting a ground offensive, and has also entered Gotegyi Village in full force. The current situation is that the AA and allied forces have regained control. The military regime and anti-regime forces are still engaged in fighting.”
Junta troops launched the offensive against Gotegyi Village on December 18 with hundreds of troops and managed to seize some areas, but joint forces led by the Arakan Army regained control on December 20.
The military regime is replenishing manpower and weapons via the Ann–Padan road through the Padan Village-based Artillery Battalion No. 905, which is currently based in Myaylat Village and conducting military operations.
In Pandaung Township, Bago Region, the military regime is reportedly reinforcing the Point 666 hilltop camp near the junta’s Weapons Factory No. 16. The Arakan Army and allied forces are intercepting the reinforcements, resulting in intense fighting.
The Arakan Army and allied forces intercepted reinforcements heading to the Point 666 hilltop camp on December 20, seizing bodies and some weapons. Fighting is still ongoing.
“The military regime’s Weapons Factory No. 16 is continuously reinforcing the Point 666 hilltop camp. On December 20, another column of hundreds of troops was sent, and the Arakan Army and allied forces intercepted them and captured prisoners of war. The fighting remains intense,” another military source said.
The Arakan Army captured the Point 666 hilltop camp in October but was forced to withdraw after the military regime launched a massive counteroffensive. The camp is currently under siege.
In Laymyethna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, the military regime is conducting daily airstrikes, with civilians reportedly killed and homes burned down.
Fierce fighting is underway near Sawpyar Village, where the military regime is carrying out daily ground and air attacks. Four civilians have reportedly been killed and at least 20 houses burned down.
“The military regime is advancing on Sawpyar Village, so fighting is intense on both sides. They are carrying out both ground attacks and airstrikes ahead of the election. Four people from Sawpyar and Khatchokon villages have been killed and their houses burned down. The military regime is also firing from the air using jet fighters and paramotors,” a local resident said.
In Ayeyarwady Region, a coalition force led by the Arakan Army controls the western side of the Pathein–Monywa Highway, while the military regime is attacking from the eastern side.
The Arakan Army and allied forces have seized and are controlling at least 10 junta camps in Laymyethna, Ingapu, Yekyi, Thabaung and Pathein townships in Ayeyarwady Region.
On the Arakan front, the military regime is also carrying out continuous attacks on civilian villages in Kyaukphyu and Sittwe using heavy weapons and airstrikes.
