The Arakkha Army (AA) has taken control of the junta’s Point 253, a key military camp east of Sanyin Village in Myebon Township, Arakan State, according to a reliable source.
The AA began attacking the military camp on April 10 and seized it completely two weeks later.
“We do not hear the sound of gunfire for the time being. The AA fighters killed several junta soldiers and seized the military camp,” the source told DMG.
Under the No. 5 Military Operations Command, the military camp is located about 1 mile east of Sanyin Village.
Some homes in Sanyin Village were damaged by artillery shells fired by the military during the fighting with the AA.
“Four mortar shells fired by the military fell in the village, destroying two homes and burning two homes. No casualties were reported,” said another source.
In his message marking the 15th anniversary of the founding of the AA on April 10, AA chief Twan Mrat Naing urged residents in Arakan State to brace for the decisive battle in the state.
Fighting has been raging in Arakan State for more than five months, with the AA seizing large swaths of Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Pauktaw, Myebon and Ramree townships, as well as Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.
Clashes between the military and AA are currently reported in Taungup and Thandwe townships, and the AA is stepping up attacks on military camps, junta bases and Border Guard Force outposts in Ann, Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships.
