Delta variant patient in Sittwe discharged from hospital

 

A Covid-19 patient in Sittwe who was recently identified as having been infected with the highly contagious Delta variant was discharged from hospital after recovering, said Dr. Soe Win Paing, assistant director of the Arakan State Department of Public Health.

A Covid-19 patient in Sittwe who was recently identified as having been infected with the highly contagious Delta variant was discharged from hospital after recovering, said Dr. Soe Win Paing, assistant director of the Arakan State Department of Public Health. 

The junta’s Ministry of Health announced on August 31 that 15 people were infected with the Delta variant of coronavirus in testing among some Covid-19 patients in Myanmar. 

“The patient was discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease. I don’t remember the exact day that the patient was discharged,” said Dr. Soe Win Paing. 

Infection rates have declined since the last week of July in Arakan State, according to the Department of Public Health. 

The number of Covid-19 deaths reported in the state was 412 as of September 6. They were 98 from Sittwe; 68 from Taungup; 39 from Kyaukphyu; 35 from Thandwe; 22 from Gwa; 20 from Kyauktaw; 18 each from Ann, Mrauk-U and Maungdaw; 15 from Minbya; 13 from Manaung;12 from Pauktaw; 10 from Ramree; nine each from Ponnagyun and Rathedaung; and eight from Buthidaung. 

Dr. Khin Khin Gyi, director of the Health Awareness Division of the Public Health Department under the Ministry of Health, told DMG that the number of Covid-19 cases reported in Myanmar had fallen below 10%. 

“We tested a total of 45,000 people within these days. It was a wide test and the number of confirmed cases was under 10 percent. The death toll has declined too,” she said. 

After the Delta variant case was recorded in Sittwe, random Covid-19 tests were conducted in Sittwe to motorcyclists and pedestrians who were not wearing masks. 

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Arakan State reached 4,360 on September 6, while the number of confirmed cases countrywide stood at 417,971, according to the junta’s Ministry of Health, with 15,985 deaths attributed to the disease.
