A schoolteacher sheltering as an internally displaced person (IDP) in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, died after taking his own life on the morning of August 6.

A schoolteacher sheltering as an internally displaced person (IDP) in Ponnagyun Township, Arakan State, died after taking his own life on the morning of August 6.
The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Ko Aung Zaw Lin, also known as Maung White Chay, from Wahbo Village in Sittwe Township. He had been sheltering in Taungnar Village, Ponnagyun Township.
"He did not wake up this morning, so we went to check on him. That was when we found that he had taken his own life," said a person close to the family.
Colleagues expressed deep sadness over his death, describing Ko Aung Zaw Lin as a dedicated teacher who had devoted himself to educating displaced children.
"We taught together, so I am deeply saddened by his passing. We also worked together on community welfare, and losing such a valuable person is a great loss. My heart goes out to his family, as they have lost one of their main sources of support," a colleague said.
On July 14, 85-year-old U Maung San Min, also from Wahbo Village in Sittwe Township, died after taking his own life while sheltering in Taungnar Village. Family members said he had been struggling with severe livelihood hardships and was unable to afford medical treatment.
