Arakanese, Kokang groups pledge support for fellow alliance member TNLA on Ta’ang National Revolution Day

The Myanmar National Truth and Justice Party/Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNTJP/MNDAA) and the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) have said that as long as their military and political goals remain unattained, the Three Brotherhood Alliance — of which both are a part — will continue to fight for their shared causes.

The joint statement was made in a congratulatory message sent by the Kokang and Arakanese ethnic groups to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Ta’ang National Revolution Day on January 12.

The message also said that the various ethnic groups in Myanmar, including the Kokang, Ta’ang and Arakanese people, are still fighting individually and collectively for national equality, the right to self-determination and the right to self-autonomy, and for national liberation and freedom from the military dictatorship.

The message said that due to the activities of the Three Brotherhood Alliance, mutual values and trust have been achieved not only among their own organisations, but also among the Kokang, Ta’ang and Arakanese people, and among the revolutionary organisations that emerged from the Spring Revolution against Myanmar’s military regime.

The Palaung National Army, formed in 1963, was renamed the Palaung State Liberation Army (PSLA) in 1976. In April 1991, a ceasefire between the PSLA and the junta of the time led to disagreements within the group, and in January 1992, the Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF) was formed. In 2009, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) was formed to protect the Ta’ang region.

The PSLF/TNLA is not a signatory to the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and is a member of the Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC), which is made up of seven northern ethnic armed groups.

The PSLF/TNLA is the third member of the Three Brotherhood Alliance.
