Junta-AA clashes intensifying in Gwa Twsp

Fighting between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) continues to escalate in Gwa Township, Arakan State, according to military sources.

As of 9 a.m. on October 14, fighting between the military and AA continued to intensify on the hills near Kutohlay, Kyaychaing and villages, said a military source.

“The military-AA hostilities are fierce in Gwa Township. The regime is responding to the AA attacks with aerial and naval support. Fighting between the military and AA is reported in Gwa Township daily,” the military source added.

It has been about one week since the military first clashed with the AA on the hills near Kutohlay Village, about 18 miles from Gwa Town.

Regime soldiers abducted about 10 youths from Kutohlay Village during a raid on October 12 and only one of the arrestees has since been released.

“Regime soldiers arrested some young men on suspicion on October 12. A teenage boy was released on bail two days later. I don’t know where the arrestees were taken,” said another source.

Two locals were shot dead and one man was arrested while attempting to evade the junta raid on Kutohlay Village on October 12.

Local people from several villages including Kutohlay, Delbote, Thabyuchaung and Kyaychaing have been displaced by the fighting between regime and AA forces.

Clashes were reported earlier this month near Kalarpyin Village, about 20 miles from Gwa Town, with the AA seizing junta camps in Khaingkhon Village and along the Gantgaw mountain range on October 6.
