Junta raids Saw Town, arrests civilians amid military buildup

A 200-strong junta contingent has entered Saw Town in Magway Region and is reportedly arresting local residents, according to ground sources.

A 500-strong junta column departed from Artillery Battalion No. 368 via Kangyi Village on 28 May, deploying forces along the Kangyi-Saw Road section. On the afternoon of 31 May, around 200 troops advanced into Saw Town.

“We learned that the regime advanced with about 500 troops from the Kangyi Village side and deployed reinforcements in all villages along the Saw-Kangyi Road section. They entered Saw Town with about 200 troops,” a local resident told DMG.

The junta troops entering Saw Town are reportedly arresting civilians, breaking into empty houses and shops to seize supplies, and threatening local residents.

“Junta soldiers are arresting people whenever they see them outside, so those who remained in the town no longer dare to go out. As our family flees the conflict, we are worried about our home and anxious that all our belongings may be taken,” another local resident said.

Revolutionary forces have also stated that the regime is resupplying junta troops in Saw Town by air using Y-8 aircraft.

The regime has reportedly deployed massive reinforcements to Saw Town, a strategic gateway connecting Magway Region and southern Chin State, as part of preparations for offensives in southern Chin State.
