Junta soldiers and members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), Arakan Rohingya Army (ARA) and Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) set fire to some homes in Aungbala Village, part of Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township, on July 11, local sources said.
A coalition force consisting of around 50 junta soldiers and Muslim militiamen entered Aungbala Village and torched at least 10 homes on Thursday morning.
“No unusual incident was reported in the village [prior to the arson attack]. The regime soldiers and Muslim militiamen intentionally set fire to homes in the village,” said a source.
Aungbala Village is located along the road to the Kanyin Chaung economic zone from Maungdaw Town. The village is home to hundreds of internally displaced people (IDPs) and locals, and much of the population fled following the junta arson attack.
“Local people and IDPs were forced to flee by the junta arson attack. Only elderly people remain in the village,” said a displaced person.
The Arakkha Army (AA) is attacking the military’s Border Guard Force (BGF) Battalion No. 5 in Maungdaw’s Myothugyi Ward, the only junta BGF battalion in Maungdaw Township. The AA is launching an offensive to take control of Maungdaw whereas the regime is boosting its defences in downtown Maungdaw, the ethnic armed group said in a statement.
The regime, which is being militarily defeated in Arakan State, is on a daily basis conducting airstrikes, and artillery and arson attacks, on civilian areas.
